More support for 1.8 and why it takes so long Doskii - 2014-11-01

1.8 was released on the 2nd September and as you might have noticed most modded servers including this one don't really support 1.8 completely, sure you can connect with 1.8 and you can see titles in the middle of your screen but it doesn't have all of the blocks and features that 1.8 has. I'm not going to fully explain exactly what is happening and it isn't completely clear what is happening either so I'm just going to summary it. Bukkit (which is what basically all servers and a bunch of other server software (except vanilla) are based upon or depend on) contained a lot of code from somebody called Wesley Wolfe who for some reason became mad and sued bukkit and everything else that uses or depends on it meaning that it is now illegal to upload anything that has Wesley's code in it. Bukkit now seems dead as most of its workers have left the project, Mojang said that they would update it themselves but nobody has heard from them since they said that just before the DMCA takedown.

The server software that this server uses is working on updating bukkit themselves but that takes a long time because they haven't done it before (I think) and 1.8 has a bunch of changed code that they need to deobfuscate (if you are a programmer then you probably know that this isn't fun and easy) and create new API's for it. The estimated time of finishing it is somewhere between early November and late December as I've mentioned before on the server.

Now let's get to good news, somebody made a hack that enables some of the 1.8 blocks and features. It, of course does not mean that it is completely flawless and bug free but it is at least something. I have tested it a bit and it seems to work but I don't recommend using armor stands yet as they seem to disappear sometimes and it would of course not be fun to lose your armor :P.
